National Spaghetti Day

Today I am not trying a new recipe. We celebrated National Spaghetti Day for dinner tonight. I use Rachael Ray's recipe for bolognese sauce that the whole family enjoys. Spaghetti is not a favorite dish of my husband, however. He likes pasta, but he is not a tomato fan and the sauce tends to be too heavy on tomato flavor for him. It has always been one of my favorite comfort foods and all of our children enjoy it too.

One thing that makes it more tolerable for him is that I usually try to make garlic bread or breadsticks to go with it. He prefers the garlic bread it possible, and so does Bear, our middle boy. Bear calls it spicy bread because he can see the spices on it. I have never measured for this bread, but after trying a few different combinations of flavors we all seem to really enjoy this one.

Garlic Bread

a loaf of Italian bread                       softened butter
garlic powder                                 dried parsley
salt                                         paprika

1. Slice the loaf of bread the long way and spread softened butter on cut sides of the bread.
2. Sprinkle the garlic powder over the top of the butter until it is covered.
3. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over each side of the bread.
4. Shake parsley and paprika over each side of the bread.
5. Place the bread under the broiler until the butter melts and the edges of the bread start to get crisp.
